On a long, slow boat ride out of the underworld
No signs as to indicate which way the exit might be
Waves ripple against the stone, the ending of the odyssey unfurled
And as odyssey's usually go, it ends different than the reader had foreseen

Turning page after unpredictable page
Rooting for the protagonist against all odds
Pacing along and reading into every little exchange
Thinking you can predict the minds of the gods

Eurydice staying back forever, lost in the throes underground
Stuck in the hands of Hades' clutch
A fate so hideous you may as well have drowned
Your new reality hits you like a stomach punch
