These are the mundane complexities of everyday life -

Have the desire to write until my hand crumbles beneath the pen
To start a thread of words without even knowing how they'll end

Wanna start a duel just to test who is a worthy opponent
Spy the sheep from the lions, befriend those whose language of steel is most potent

Have the urge to spin phrases into laughter to help ease the weight upon your shoulders
Then wanna shift myself to appear as the always steady and surviving soldier

These are the mundane complexities of everyday life, you see?
Got the urge to tell you everything on my mind, to pull you in closer
To call you and ask, just to see if you'd come over
Have to create something that holds the potential to mean anything to anyone
Got a desire to compete for nothing at all in return for the reward of having won

Dying to speak at the funeral of the person I was yesterday
Then want you to ride shotgun for the drive to the next version of me, keeping me company all the way

These are the mundane complexities of everyday life, you see?
Dying to resonate with words I read every day in my book
Then wanna show it to everyone on the bus ride home to see if they understood

Wanna know the reasoning for anything, deep dive into useless topics
Have the desire to wander even further into the boundaries of my conscience

Got the urge to hold any emotion close to my chest so my day never breaks
Then respond in the heat of the moment to every experience, leaving steam in my wake
These are the mundane complexities of everyday life, you see?

Overhear a conversation on the street then write an entire poem based on this exchange
Find a way to write plays around these strangers then spin stories from my life onto the same stage

Dying to lie on my back in a field just to stare at an empty sky
Inhale what you passed over and let the evening hours float right by

Spy the best in everyone even when the cops warn me their criminal record is no good
Let you explain to me good and bad like it's black and white just to show you the gray is life's playbook

These are the mundane complexities of everyday life, you see?
Got the urge to make you proud of my quirks in hopes it'll make you understand
The desire to ruthlessly achieve as long as it keeps me a thousand miles from those lands

Wanna linger longer just to keep the conversation going even though I should leave
Have to convey to all who come near, for better or for worse, there is no other me

Dying to lose hours of sleep just to spill all these thoughts onto a blank canvas page
With no true promise a single soul will read it, isn't that strange?
