Some observed it as a story, others' a prophecy
What once lived in the light, was morphed to modesty
As it is shared, here's how it began
A tale as old as time, across generations it would span
It was quite known, she had no permission to see the sun
Hours passed with no recess, only extended if she chose to run
Shackles broken, freedom betrothed
Painstaking attempts to remain, only learning to loathe
No recognition of face, passwords buried in your chain
To the dearly departed, our jury is unanimous, the guilty are slain
Press release required, probation wouldn’t do -
To avenge the lamb who outlived you
As the rumor mill churned, the town shared the whispers
Some said she deserted, others say she journeyed to her sisters'
Only to find she dwells in a castle, sprawling at the bottom of a hill
Quite the antonym to her previous bastille
The lore carries on of her escape, divide, but scott-free
Masquerading a chapter close she never knew could be
Handcuffs scarred a fragile circumference, skin grows over the rust
Patching over & disregarding any distrust
And when the light finally reaches your eyes, how do you tell -
A jester in youth, you would only build once you fell?
